Miss Black and Gold Pageant seeking candidates

Applications are now available for persons interested in competing for the Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant title.

The pageant, set for January 29, 2016, is hosted by the Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in Prairie View, Texas.

Persons interested in competing for the pageant are invited to two interest meeting; October 1 and 7 at 6:00 p.m. 104 E. E. Obanion Building at Prairie View A&M University.

The Miss Black and Gold Pageant presents the opportunity for young women to grow and develop into professional women.

PVAMU Adebisi Adeniji Adele is SW Regional Miss Black and Gold

Adebis Adenji Adele is the new Miss Black and Gold for the Southwest Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  Adebisi won the regional title at the pageant held in Dallas on April 11. She will represent the region at the fraternity's national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 7.

Adebisi presented a gut wrenching performance of an original dramatic monologue focusing on human trafficking in the talent competition.  In addition to the title, Adebisi won the interviews and eveningwear competitions.

Adebisi is senior Mechanical Engineering student from Houston by way of Lagos, Nigeria. Among her honors and organizations is listing on the Dean’s List and Who’s Who Among Students; Golden Key International Honor Society, a member of the National Society of Black Engineers,  and the African Students Association.

She aspires to become a professional engineer. She admires Forest Whittaker and enjoys public speaking and debate. In her spare time she volunteers and serves as a mentor for children with disabilities, the Boys and Girls Club and advocates for AIDS eradication in Africa. Her Platform is Reintroducing STEMM to high school students in lower socio-economic areas. Her talent is Dramatic Interpretation.

To get to the regional pageant, Adebisi triumphed over 12 contestants when she won the Texas District Miss Black and Gold 2015, representing the Eta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at the pageant on February 14. Kieara Hooey was first runner-up, representing the Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapter (Prairie View - Alumni). 

Miss Adele is looking forward to representing the fraternity at the various events planned for the year.

Prairie View Alpha Chapters win top honors at Miss Black and Gold Texas Pageant

It was a great day for the members of the Eta Gamma and Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at the 2015 Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant sponsored by the Texas Council of Alpha Chapters. The pageant held on February 14 in Dallas, Texas and featured 12 contestants representing the various chapters in the District.

After several rounds of competition the top seven candidates included Miss Adebisi Andenji Adele - Miss Black and Gold Eta Gamma Chapter (Prairie View A&M University) and Miss Kieara Hooey - Miss Black and Gold Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapter (Prairie View - Alumni).  The contestants in this round presented their talent routine, eveningwear and on-stage question.  When the final scores were tallied, Adebisi Andenji Adele was crowned Miss Black and Gold Texas, with Keiera Hooey as the first runner up to Miss Black and Gold Texas.  On hand for the crowning was Miss Nadia Green the outgoing Miss Black and Gold Texas and former Miss Black and Gold Eta Gamma. Incidentally, Nadia was first runner-up in the Southwest Regional Miss Black and Gold pageant in 2014.

Adebisi will represent the District at the Southwest Region Miss Black and Gold Pageant on April 11, 2015, also in Dallas, Texas.

Adele and Hooey to compete in TCAC Miss Black & Gold Pageant

Adebisi Adeniji Adele and Kieara D. Hooey will compete in the 2015 Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant on February 14 in Dallas, Texas at the Texas Conference of Alpha Chapters' meeting.

Adebisi, Miss Black & Gold Eta Gamma and Hooey, Miss Black & Gold Epsilon Tau Lambda, won the titles in the pageant held in November 2104 at Prairie View A&M University and hosted by the members of the chapters.
Adebisi is a 21 year old junior Mechanical Engineering student from Houston, Texas by way of Lagos, Nigeria. She on the Dean’s List and Who’s Who Among Students and a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, Golden Key International Honor Society and the African Students Association. Adebisi aspires to become a professional engineer. She admires Forest Whittaker and enjoys public speaking and debate. Adebisi won the talent competition with a gut-wrenching dramatic interpretation of a young women caught up in human trafficking.

Kieara D. Hooey, a 20 year old junior Political Science and Spanish major from Houston, Texas. She is on the Dean’s List with membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, President of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and Delta Sigma Pi Spanish Honor Society, and the famed Classic Dance Ensemble. She volunteers as a tutor at the Julia C. Hester House after school program for elementary students in 5th Ward, mentor for Duryea Elementary. She aspires to become a Bilingual Attorney or an International Affairs Envoy. She admires Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, V. C. Andrew and Jessica Alba and enjoys Ballet, Modern and Jazz dancing, writing and reading fiction. Her Platform is Take PRIDE in your endeavors: Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence.  She performed a spiritual and lyrical dance for her talent and won the Academic Achievement Award.

The members are counting on the ladies to continue winning tradition and bring back the crown to Prairie View A&M University.  In the 2014 pageant Nadia Grier, Miss Eta Gamma Black & Gold won the district title and was named First Runner-up for the Regional Title, while Briana Clark, Miss Epsilon Tau Lambda Black & Gold was Second Runner-up.

Hooey is New Miss Black & Gold Epsilon Tau Lambda

Kieara D. Hooey, a 20 year old junior Political Science and Spanish major from Houston, Texas is the new Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant.

Hooey, First Runner-up in the pageant held in November 2014, gained the title with the resignation of Aloria Prince who won the title.

Hooey is on the Dean’s List with membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, President of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and Delta Sigma Pi Spanish Honor Society, and the famed Classic Dance Ensemble. She volunteers as a tutor at the Julia C. Hester House after school program for elementary students in 5th Ward, mentor for Duryea Elementary. She aspires to become a Bilingual Attorney or an International Affairs Envoy. She admires Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, V. C. Andrew and Jessica Alba and enjoys Ballet, Modern and Jazz dancing, writing and reading fiction.
