The high stepping and vivacious young women of the Prairie View Panther Dolls will be featured dancers at the 2016-17 Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant, set for November 10 in the Opal Johnson Smith Auditorium at Prairie View A&M University.
The Panther Dolls were created in the 1990's by Miss Pamela Thomas to provide half-time entertainment at the University's basketball games. You could say the group took command of the indoor sports as the Marching Storm's Black Foxes commanded the football arenas around the state. The dancers also participates in other events at the university to include spirit days, Panthers on the Hill recruitment and off campus activities.
The troupe consists of Bria Anderson, Eboni Appling, Brenna Armstrong, Akeria Black, Shamyron Brown, Jamesha Cherry, Tayler Davis, Dajzette Edgerson, Desiray Epps, Alyssa Henderson, Marissa Jacquet, Amanda James, Tera Jones, Torre Mavericks, Kierra O'Neal, Kendra Parsons, Kendol Pitts, Aloria Prince, Ariyanna Richardson, Tiffani Thornton and Mea Ware. Miss Nina Wright, Program Coordinator in the Office of Student Engagement is the Artistic Director and Sponsor.
The 31st Annual Pageant, themed The Harlem Renaissance: Queens take on Harlem, features Nakia Alomaja, Madelyn Bartley, Arieonna Cage, Moriah Colbert, Kaneshia Davis, Marilyn Dunn, Kyasia Fields, Nikisha Francois, Olivia Johnson, Jade Morris, Nia Scott, Jada Vaughn-Olajide and Terika Williams.
Two ladies will be selected, one as Miss Black and Gold Eta Gamma and Miss Black and Gold Epsilon Tau Lambda. They will represent that chapters at the Texas Council of Alpha Chapter Miss Black & Gold competition February 18 in Houston.
